Guardians of Light

INVITATION

This is the beginning of an adventure — a real one. You’re about to enter a brotherhood of honor, built on ancient paths walked by prophets, philosophers, and knights. Within these ranks, you will be tested. You will train your body, sharpen your mind, and strengthen your heart. You’ll earn medallions through fire and faith — each one a mark of a deeper transformation. Trials await. Quests will be given. And you won’t walk alone. You’ll stand with your legion — will you begin as a Squire, rise as a Knight, or lead as a Captain? You’ll carry a sword. Raise a shield. Take the Guardian’s Oath. And learn to follow the True King — Jesus Christ. This is not school. This is not a club. This is sacred training for boys who are ready to become men of light. Guardians, assemble. Your first trial awaits.

A Word to parents

Dear Parents,

Your son has just entered into something rare — not a class, not a club, but a brotherhood of honor. Guardians of Light is a 12-part initiation journey designed to help boys grow into men through challenge, story, and responsibility. It is also a complement to the pathway to and in priesthood power.

Each week, your son will step into a space patterned after ancient rites of passage — combining physical activity, sacred story, spiritual symbolism, and peer-led reflection. He will earn medallions that represent virtues like Truth, Courage, Brotherhood, and Spiritual Strength. These aren’t given for showing up. They’re earned — through action, integrity, and reflection.

The Weekly Rhythm (The Guardian’s Rite)

Each class follows a simple but powerful pattern:

  1. The Muster – Gathering of the guardians into a circle to begin the day using the warrior's stance to create presence while quest experiences are shared.

  2. The Flame of the Day – A short story or legend from mentors like prophets & apostles, heroes from history, stoic philosophers, or Knights of the Round Table.

  3. The Trial – A physical challenge or activity tied to the month's virtue.

  4. The Inscription & Quest Selection – Mentor names can be inscribed on the sword and quests (or goals) related to the virtue discussed will be selected for the coming month.

  5. The Circle of Fire – Medallions will be awarded and the Guardian’s Oath will be recited to close the day.

The Poster, Oath, and Quest

Your son will come home with his Guardian poster — a visual record of each virtue he’s earned and the personal vows he writes beneath them. He’ll also receive his Oath card, to memorize as he will recite this with his brothers in the group.   Each month, he’ll be given a Quest card — a simple mission that brings the month's value into real life.

To earn his medallion he will complete three things:  a trial during the group event, a quest in the month before our next gathering, and a personal commitment or vow based on that medallion's theme.

We invite you to:

  • Ask about his current Quest.

  • Read over his vows with him.

  • Recite the Oath together.

  • Praise him for effort and growth — not performance. This journey, while collective, is individual in earningmedallions-integrity and honor are more important than speed.

A Special Word to Fathers

If you're able, we warmly welcome you to participate in this brotherhood. Your example as a mentor is so inspiring to your son. There are many ways for you to participate and you can choose what seems to fit your schedule best. These may include: joining a session, leading a Trial, telling a story or personal experiences, or simply asking your son what he’s learning. If your schedule is limited, even a few minutes spent discussing his current Quest can have a lot of impact.

Or consider joining in by doing your own quest on a monthly theme.  We have posters for dads and encourage you to join in.  Your trial would be replaced with studying the words of the mentors mentioned above for each month that we have compiled to match the medallions.  We have created this journey in the hope that it will bless your son — and it will bless you, too.

The world teaches boys to chase status. Guardians of Light teaches them to carry strength with humility, purpose, and light. We are honored to walk this path alongside you, with your son. Thank you for entrusting us with part of his becoming.

At the Heart

At the heart of Guardians of Light is Jesus Christ — the True Guardian, the King of Kings, and the one who showed us what divine strength looks like. Every medallion your son earns, every story he hears, every oath he speaks is ultimately meant to draw him closer to Christ, and to help him walk as a disciple in these latter days.

The center of his shield bears the medallion of Christ — he has chosen to follow. Our goal is not perfection. It’s devotion. We teach strength, yes — but a strength modeled after the Savior, who washed feet, calmed storms, stood for truth, and gave His life for those He loved.

When you are a Guardian of Light, you carry not just a sword or a shield — you carry the name of Christ. And His light goes with you.

With honor,

Rising Hope’s Guardians of Light Council

A Word to LEADERS

Dear Leaders,

Thank you for stepping into this noble work. As you guide these young men, remember: this program is not just about games or lessons. It is about awakening their Divine Identity and calling them into a mission. To do this, we need to frame every experience with purpose and meaning.

Guardian Identity

Teach them what it means to be a Guardian of Light. Light represents truth, goodness, and the strength to do what is right even when it’s hard. Make it clear that they are stepping into a brotherhood—not a club, not a class, but a mission.

Say something like: “Each of you has something powerful inside of you—your job is to find it, protect it, and grow it. That’s what Guardians do.”

The Sword and Shield as Sacred Tools

Teach the young men their sword and shield are not toys. They are symbols of their heroic deeds. The sword represents their voice, their choices, and their actions. The shield becomes their record of honor. Each wooden medallion they earn forms a circle of memory on the shield, a mark of each virtue gained through challenge. When they hold these tools, they should feel the weight of their meaning.

Set the Tone for Brotherhood

This group is not about competing to be the best, making fun of each other, or getting everything perfect. It is about: Growing together, protecting each other, and becoming men who can carry light into dark places. Use unifying language, such as: “No one gets left behind. When one Guardian rises, we all rise.” This is the Guardians of Light brotherhood.

Guiding Principles for Mentors

Young men learn best with the following elements. Do your best to keep these principles in mind as you teach:

  • Clear Roles: Let them earn ranks or emblems over time (e.g., Junior Guardian, Flamekeeper). Growth should be visible.

  • Challenge + Risk: Slight difficulty makes the experience meaningful. Don’t sanitize it.

  • Honor + Brotherhood: Speak in terms of Guardians, Oaths, Brothers. This creates identity.

  • Physical Activity: Always include something tactile or active—they learn by doing.

  • Symbolic Meaning: Even small tokens or actions gain deep power when framed as sacred.

  • Earned Respect: Let them earn praise and recognition—it matters more when achieved.

  • Archetypes: Teach through story—the Apostle, the Philosopher, the Knight —rather than theory or emotional lectures.

When you weave these elements together, you are helping each young man see himself not just as another kid, but as a son of God, a Guardian of Light, and a brother in a noble mission. Thank you for leading with courage and faith.

With Honor,

The Guardians of Light Council
